Living Life–The Pilgrim Way

September 25, 2017 susananthony14 Comments

Dear Anne, On our first night in Spain, in the village of La Seu D’Urgell high in the Pyrenees, hubby and I stumbled upon a local festival (where those devil robes would have come in handy, but that’s another post) and managed to sit next to one of the few English speakers in town. Over… Continue reading Living Life–The Pilgrim Way

Traveling Lightly

Dear Susan,   The devil is in the details. Or in this case, the devil robes.  Let me back up. For me, September has become the month of watching all my empty-nester friends’ trips to Europe on Facebook. They drop the last kid at college, wax poetical about the pain of their young offspring leaving… Continue reading Traveling Lightly

Man Plans, God Winks

Dear Anne, You know I believe in God winks, not coincidences, right? Well, this weekend He gave me a wink that even my jet-lagged self couldn’t miss. Because my body was still on Spanish time (we landed Saturday afternoon), I was up much earlier than usual Sunday morning. Because hubby picked up a stomach bug… Continue reading Man Plans, God Winks

Shelter From the Storm

September 4, 2017 abakennedyLeave a comment

Dear Susan, The vultures on the roof greeted us as we pulled up. When we evacuated Houston over a week ago, I was so grateful that we had a place to go, my in-laws’ house in Bastrop, just outside of Austin. My mother-in-law sent me a text to warn me that two vultures had set… Continue reading Shelter From the Storm

Happy feast of St. Agnes!============= It’s all about the lamb. When I went to choose a confirmation name, I gravitated toward my grandmother’s name, Agnes. She was the only grandparent I ever knew, and we created a special bond before she died when I was 3. Agnes was also a good choice for a young teen girl because she is the patron saint of chastity and is all about the purity. =================== But really, what drew me in was the lamb, her symbol also the symbol of Christ. Her name even means “pure” and “lamb.” As much as I loved my grandmother, I have always had obsessions with a handful of animals (dogs, otters, pigs), and I could not find a saint associated with otters. So today let’s celebrate St. Agnes, her purity, her brave martyrdom, and her lamb. #feastday #stagnes #catholic #lambofgod #lamb
Well, we don’t know about that, but we ❤️Dolly! Happy birthday to a national treasure! #happybirthdaydolly #whatwoulddollydo #dolly
Today’s first reading is both difficult and yet so full of this beautiful, hopeful promise. It begins, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Yikes. ————————————————————— He sees my thoughts, my intentions. Let me tell you it’s not pretty there in my head sometimes—ok, a lot of times. But He wants to give me His grace despite my mess. I need only draw near His throne of grace (what a beautiful image is that, huh?) and He will forgive me and give me the grace I need. How blessed are we by that?! We have a God who understands our weaknesses and loves us anyway. ———————————————————————- Yeah, let that one sink in. Heavenly Father, I am heartily sorry for my sins, but I am thankful for your boundless grace and I ask that you grant me today the grace I need to follow where you lead. Amen——————————————————————-—- #grace #hebrews #bible #forgiveness #todaysreading #catholic
Dabo Swinney is my spirit animal for 2019. It’s not just that he coached his Clemson Tigers to another national championship Monday night, or even that he reduced Alabama’s dark lord Nick Saban to a houndstooth-patterned poster boy for the overhyped. It’s that he did it with such infectious joy and a constant acknowledgement that his successes come from God. That joy, that bedrock faith is so inspiring to me—and something I’m going to be working on this year. ***to read the rest, click on the link in our bio!*** #clemsonfootball #allin #faith #clemson #dabo #daboswinney
